VIII. Gay Games Cologne 2010

With a big opening ceremony, Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will be officially opened in the RheinEnergieStadium on 31 July. Join an impressive spectacle with international stars, athletic-artistic performances, music and of course the entrance of the 10,000 participants from more than 70 countries and first of all an unbelievable atmosphere with up to 34,000 spectators.

Directly following the opening ceremony the 34,000 spectators may also attend the official Gay Games Opening Party at the Lanxess Arena.  The party is a giant scene on 6 dance floors with the COLOUR-team presenting DJs known worldwide.  Be Part of It!

Another highlight event for friends of ballroom dancing is the Unity Ball, held on August 6 at the beautiful Maritim Hotel Cologne.  Those who enjoy dancing, be it for sport or leisure, will need tickets, well worth your time for a first class show in Cologne’s most exciting ballroom.
Start: 8 pm. Ticket prices between 23 and 45 Euros.

 

Enchanting evenings with choirs from all over the world can be experienced on August 1, 2, and 6 at the Comedia Theatre Cologne. Cologne’s gay-lesbian association “Stimmfusion” meet partner choirs from different continents and organize an exciting program.
Start: 8 pm each night. Ticket price is 16 Euros.

The “Sound of the world” can be experienced by spectators and listeners at the big Gala concert on August 5 at the concert hall of the University of Music and Dance Cologne – organized by the international Team Band, the festival choir and the gay-lesbian choirs of Cologne. Instrumentalists are playing at the Team Band, who are also taking part in the Gay Games and form a multicolored music group, just as the choir is built from hundreds of individual voices. A brilliant highlight is planned with the hymn (theme song) for Cologne in which the choirs and band perform together. 
Start: 8 pm. Ticket Price is 18 Euros.On August 6, the “Pink Flamingo” offers a funny evening at the stadium pool at the Sportpark Muengesdorf showing synchronized swimming in unusual costumes. This traditional event of the IGLA and the Gay Games promises an exciting, funny and sometimes revealing evening. Participants of the water sport events get in for free, for all others there are a limited number of seats for sale.
Start: 7 pm. Ticket price is 10 Euros.

A highlight of the Gay Games Cologne is the figure skating exhibition. All figure skating exhibitions at previous Gay Games have taken place in sold out ice-skating rinks.

Fabulous on Ice – the exhibition skating of the Gay Games Cologne in which the skaters of the competition will show their most beautiful program – takes place on Thursday 08/05/2010. Advance booking has begun on the Cologne Gay Games web site. Since there are only 450 seats, act now in order to be part of this icy pleasure.

The last highlight will be the big closing ceremony on Aug, 7 at the Tanzbrunnen Cologne. After a week full of emotions, personal best in sports, with wonderful encounters, and new friendships, we all have to say “good bye”.  With a magnificent farewell of Cologne Gay Games, sports, and culture, we keep first in our hearts and minds, our new and old friends from around the world.  The flag of the Gay Games will be passed on to the next host of the Gay Games, the cities of Cleveland-Akron (Ohio/USA).
